Julian Matthews - Secondary Advisory Teacher

Hello, my name is Julian Matthews and I work as a specialist teacher for the Advisory Service.  I have experience as a subject teacher in both mainstream and special schools. I have also worked in a PRU and a specialist autistic provision and I have enjoyed all the challenges these have presented.

I have been with the Advisory Service since April 2007 and have worked alongside mainstream teachers and TAs in supporting  students with autism and social and communication difficulties. I have worked with whole classes, small groups and individual    students. I have enjoyed working collaboratively with staff in each of my links schools in the borough and have been able to share all the good practice I have experienced in these educational settings. In the future I would like to develop the following areas;

· Social understanding curriculum for students with ASD

· Contributions to IEP target setting and Annual Reviews

· Anti-bullying lessons

· Group-work for ASD students

· Promoting effective teaching and learning for ASD learners

· Staff training for behaviour strategies for ASD students

I look forward to working with you all this academic year.
